Career Change Journey β€” Month 2

I am approaching the homestretch of the Data Science Track β€” SCA mentorship program. So far, the mentorship has bridged the knowledge gap on technical and soft skills required to compete in the field. My mentor Kolawole Precious has been sharing great insights on what it takes to be industry-ready.

Mentorship makes a difference

Before I dive into what I have learned this month, be sure to read my career change journey, and my month 1 experience at SCA. As a newbie in data, I am glad that there are such mentorship programs giving an understanding of how analytics works in a real-world experience.

This month I have not only discovered how much I enjoy the data analysis and visualization aspect, but I have also built my critical thinking, analytics, presentation, and time management skills.

Learning Path β€” Month 2

βž₯ Week 1: SQL for Data Analysis
This week I learned basic SQL, SQL Joins, SQL Aggregations, and some advanced SQL queries.
The assignment for this week was solving SQL challenges in Hackerrank. You can find my solutions in my GitHub Repository.

βž₯ Week 2: Data Visualization with Tableau

This week I learned to generate insights from the data using tableau.
For the assignment this week I analyzed a dataset of World University Rankings. I discovering the best universities in the world by certain criteria and shared my interactive dashboard and story on my tableau public page.

βž₯ Week 3: Introduction to Power BI
This week I explored datasets and used Power BI to build insightful reports.
I learned how to load different types of data, transform the data using the Power Query Editor, create visualizations, and use DAX formulas (Data Analysis Expressions) to create customized calculated columns and measures to better analyze the data. You can read the full article on my analysis here.

βž₯ Week 4: Course Recap & Icebreaker
This final week was majorly for reviewing previous course content that I could not complete within a week schedule. It was also an excellent time catching up with my peer group members.

So far, I have had an excellent opportunity to learn the skills, tools, and techniques required in the data science industry. Turns out, with all that I have learned till now, is what a Data Analyst role entails. If you happen to be hiring a data analyst or visualization specialist, I am here for it 😎
